Wide toe box. Light cushioning. Zero drop. Shoes that are shaped for the foot — not the other way around.

The story of BREJD

It all started with a question we couldn't stop asking.

At Widetoes in Ostrobothnia, we’ve spent years selling shoes and talking feet with customers of all ages. If there’s one thing we’ve learned, it’s this:

The most important thing for foot health throughout life is that the toes have room — that they’re never squeezed together, day after day, in a shoe that’s too narrow. Lina Björkskog, physiotherapist

The solution already exists, if you look for it. Barefoot shoes with a wide toe box work wonders for the foot. But they don’t always suit everyone — the thin sole and lack of cushioning feels unfamiliar to many, especially on hard floors or asphalt.

One brand, Altra, has understood this combination: wide toe box and proper cushioning. But only in running shoes.

We asked supplier after supplier if they could apply the same thinking to everyday shoes — wide toe box, light cushioning, flat sole with no drop. Again and again, the answer was no.

So we made it ourselves.

The result is called BREJD — an Ostrobothnian dialect word for "wide", and exactly what we stand for: shoes with room for the whole foot. We shape the shoe around the foot, not the other way around.

We’re now launching our first two models: Bosund, a sneaker in two colours, and Juni, a summer ballet flat in three colours. All models are made in Portugal from soft, quality leather.

In every pair

Two insoles, one pair of shoes

Every BREJD model is built on a flexible barefoot outsole and always comes with two insoles, so you decide how your step feels — day by day, shoe by shoe.

The thin one

For when you want the real, ground-level barefoot feel and maximum ground contact.

The cushioned one

For when you want extra comfort, shock absorption and support on long days.
